Rooted in Trust. Focused on You. Why Our Mission Update Matters

Here at IFIS Publishing, we’ve refreshed our mission, vision, and values. Not because we’ve changed, but because the world around us has.

There’s more information than ever, and less time to sort through it. AI tools are becoming common in research and education, but they often prioritise speed over substance and rarely offer the transparency or reliability that rigorous science demands. In food, health, and nutrition, fields that directly impact human lives, trust isn’t optional. It’s essential.

That’s where IFIS comes in.

We’re a not-for-profit with one clear purpose: to help people find and use trustworthy research that supports innovation, education, and evidence-based decisions. From researchers and students to industry professionals and librarians, we serve a global community of people who need science they can rely on.

But as discovery habits shift and new tools enter the space, we knew it was time to take a fresh look at how we communicate our purpose. Our previous mission and vision focused on innovation and leadership—important ideas, but no longer the clearest expression of how we work, the role we play in supporting the global food and health research community, or the things we believe matter most: trust, relevance, and impact.

So we listened. We ran internal workshops, spoke with external stakeholders, and reflected on how we operate, what our users need, and what sets us apart. And we landed on something that feels right for where IFIS is today—and where we’re headed.

Our New Vision

Empowering food, health, and nutrition communities around the world through advanced information solutions.

Our new vision centres on the positive impact we aim to have on the global community working in food, health, and nutrition. It highlights the people at the heart of what we do—researchers, educators, product developers, students, and information professionals—and reflects our commitment to supporting their success through reliable, expertly curated information.

Whether it’s helping a research team find the evidence they need to support a new functional ingredient, enabling a lecturer to guide students through complex literature, or providing a librarian with tools their users can trust, this vision captures the real-world outcomes we support. It also reflects our continued investment in discovery tools and information services that adapt to changing needs, ensuring we remain a valuable, relevant partner in a fast-moving research landscape.

Our New Mission

Connecting people with trusted food, health and nutrition sciences through expert curation and innovative discovery tools.

Our mission reflects the work we do every day to make reliable, relevant research accessible to those who need it most. It emphasises two of our greatest strengths: the expert curation that ensures our content is high-quality and relevant, and the discovery tools that make that content easy to find and use.

By connecting people with trusted science, we’re enabling better decisions in research, education, and innovation. Whether it’s helping a product development team explore functional ingredients, supporting a lecturer preparing course materials, or guiding a student through their first literature search, our mission is about making sure the right information reaches the right people, at the right time.

Behind this is the work of our dedicated content and product teams—selecting only credible, peer-reviewed sources, applying a structured thesaurus to improve search accuracy, and designing tools that make discovery more intuitive. This mission guides how we serve our global community and reinforces our commitment to supporting meaningful progress in food, health, and nutrition.

Putting Purpose Into Practice

This update brings clarity to our purpose, and that clarity strengthens how we serve the global food, health, and nutrition community.

With a sharper focus, we can:

  • Support our community more effectively by staying focused on what matters most: ensuring access to trustworthy, relevant research that enables discovery, education, and innovation. In a world where content is abundant but quality is inconsistent, our role is to provide clarity, structure, and confidence.
  • Develop tools and services that meet real-world needs, guided by a clearer understanding of the challenges our users face, from navigating complex science to making time-sensitive decisions in product development or public health.
  • Strengthen our sense of shared purpose as an organisation, ensuring that everyone at IFIS can see how their work contributes to something bigger: helping researchers, educators, and professionals make informed decisions that affect lives and communities.
  • Remain grounded in our charitable mission while continuing to evolve. Our commitment to education and vocational training in food science, technology, and human nutrition remains central but our approach must adapt to the changing ways people find, access, and use information.

This isn’t about rebranding. It’s about reaffirming our identity, refining our focus, and renewing our commitment to rigour, to relevance, and to the people who rely on us.

We’re proud of what we stand for — and proud to support a global community that uses trusted research to improve food systems, public health, and scientific knowledge every day.
