Marketing Assistant

This is an interesting and challenging opportunity for a marketer looking to work in a small, highly professional, not-for-profit publisher and educational charity with ambitious growth plans. The role will suit a creative, organised self-starter who enjoys variety and collaboration. 

It is an exciting time to join IFIS. We launched a major new product earlier in 2021 and are working on further launches taking place in the coming months. This is in addition to our well-established database FSTA, used for researching food information in universities and food companies internationally.  

Working primarily with the Head of Marketing and Engagement and the Senior Marketing Executive, the Marketing Assistant supports the delivery of planned and ad hoc activities across all marketing channels, to help achieve IFIS targets for educational activities, renewals and new sales. This includes supporting the new product launches.

This is a 12 month contract, with the potential for extension. The role is full-time, 37 hours per week, with a salary of £20,000-£23,000. This position is hybrid, with a mixture of working from home and working from the office in Winnersh Triangle, Wokingham.  

Example activities include but are not limited to:

  • Design digital and print assets, including social media graphics, presentations, adverts, banners, flyers, etc.
  • Writing, proofreading and copyediting compelling content for online and print
  • Website updates as needed, including keeping product information up-to-date
  • Manage contact us inbox, answering queries or directing to relevant IFIS team
  • Support implementation of email marketing, including newsletters
  • Assist with the organisation of IFIS-run webinars and events
  • Help organise attendance and sponsorship of external events, inc. bookings and logistics
  • Conduct and facilitate product and market research activities as needed
  • Reporting and analytics
  • Manage the contact database on HubSpot in compliance with GDPR requirements
  • Support social media operations, including content research and creation, scheduling posts, and interacting with the community
  • Support customer renewal communications process during busy renewals periods
  • Potentially represent IFIS exhibiting at domestic and international conferences when these resume
  • To undertake any other duties and projects as requested by the line manager

 Skills and experience (essential)

  • At least one year of experience in marketing
  • Computer literate
  • Creativity and a flair for design
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational abilities
  • Thorough and consistent with excellent attention to detail
  • Analytical with a problem-solving attitude
  • Flexible, keen to try new things and continue to learn and develop
  • Confident managing a project and in a supporting role
  • Comfortable working using one’s own initiative and as part of a team
  • Collaboration and interpersonal skills

Treasurer (for Board of Trustees)

We are currently recruiting for a  Treasurer with a background in financial management, investment and defined benefit pension schemes to join the IFIS Board of Trustees. We are looking for someone who holds, or has recently held, a senior finance position and has some familiarity with charity finances. Please see the recruitment pack for details of the role, background about IFIS, and how to apply. 

This is a voluntary role that involves attending quarterly meetings and providing occasional advice and support. No previous experience of serving on a Board is required, as we will provide training. The role involves [1] contributing to the strategic direction of our organisation and [2] ensuring that management are delivering relevant and effective support to scientists, technologists and engineers around the world. There are also formal statutory duties associated with the role, which are detailed in the job descriptions.
