When literature searching, terminology matters. The same concept can appear under multiple names, such as soymilk, soybean milk, soya milk, and even equivalent terms in other languages. These variations can cause valuable evidence to slip through the cracks.
To ensure your search results are comprehensive, use sources that apply consistent subject indexing or controlled vocabularies like the FSTA Thesaurus or MeSH, which link related terms across languages and disciplines. This approach helps ensure your search reflects the full scope of research in your field.
FSTA uses a curated thesaurus of over 17,000 food‑related terms to support this kind of structured searching. If you’d like to see how it works in practice, you can request a free trial.
